Reflecting

Often we stop what we are doing to reflect
Thoughts seem to roam like a grazing cow
Looking back at some detail or event passed
We might ask our self who, what, why or how.

It is something that we do without restraint
Going over each synaptic connection we trace
Some give us pleasure tempting lips to smile
At times we replay one causing heart to race.

Do we censor our pathways leaving out the pain
Filtering out mistakes we have made over time
We’ve all made them, might we admit it or not
But protecting our heart is not always a crime.

As we journey through memories and replay events
We realize they have made us who we have become
We might acknowledge mistakes or bury them deep
Look to the future and pray for better to come.
