The Wall

It started with a rock, one stumbled over
Then a little mud that caused you to slide
A few more uncertain steps prove weary
Soon you’ve a need to just stop and hide.

You take those rocks and some of the mud
Packing them together so they don’t fall
Soon you find you’ve surrounded yourself
Leaving you safely behind that solid wall.

There may be those that knock to come in
Yet you didn’t leave plan window or door
So you stay to yourself and close them off
It just seems trying is too much of a chore.

It is true most walls do come down in time
The time will come to again venture outside
For now the wall keeps guard on your heart
Alone with just thoughts, a safe place to hide.

This poem spoke to me in umpteen ways. I have no words to describe how true your words hold for me. Beautiful.
