One Two Three

One day that now feels so long ago
Two people started to feel a connect
Three words became so easy to say

One heart reached out and of itself
Two hands seemed to want to hold
Three words that now held more hope

One day another held out his hand
Two that seemed so suited pulled apart
Three hearts sharing doesn’t work well

One decided to step away for a while
Two seemed to be all that could share
Three was just not what he could see

One day he started to reach out again
Two seemed to have now become one
Three words once again easier to feel

One day at a time started to be more
Two hearts that seemed to become one
Three words that brought smiles anew

One more time a distraction came in
Two working together can work out
Three just seem to break the trust

One day maybe it can still come true
Two hearts willing to fight for something
Three words can only work between two.

The last line of this poem is pure perfection! The rest of the poem is wonderful too, but you summed it up so well with that last line 🙂

  3. In using only one, two, three, you have charted the entire story.
And in one line at the end, you’ve said everything that needed to be.
