Voices

Have you suddenly stopped to listen
We all have voices inside our head
Maybe they try to lead us one way
But we follow another path instead.

Too often we look back and wonder
What might have happened if we had
Maybe we were too stubborn to admit
It may have kept us from being sad.

Maybe it was someone else’s voice
Trying to keep us from being hurt
Yet we thought we knew a better way
Leaving us free, at another to flirt.

Who can explain the voices we hear
Sometimes they appear more as a curse
But when we turn our backs on advice
We might end up with something worse.
