Hidden But Felt

With the holidays upon you once again
You put on a happy face to hide stress
But to ignore doesn’t make it go away
Bottled up it doesn’t make it hurt less.

Families aren’t always perfectly matched
Separations and divorce will bring distress
Too often spouses are angry, maybe hurt
Children too often get caught in the mess.

Depending on their ages and circumstances
Holiday visitations can be hard to work out
Don’t ignore the children’s needs to belong
Let them feel love, not just parents that shout.

You try to get along, often giving to keep peace
You let yourself be taken advantage of instead
The hurt you keep hidden, even when it is felt
Not letting anyone else get inside of your head.

But with all things that we let get bottled up
There comes a time when you will just blow
Before that happens, sit the children down
Talk to them and let your love and fears show.
