No Sleeves

There are times when we think too much
All it does is cause us to worry unnecessarily
In turn we put pressure on friends as well
Until in the end, we end up acting foolishly.

Feelings and emotions get the best of us
How we deal with them can be the key
Whether we can remain friends or not
Or if we are too stupid to facts really see.

As we grow older, we should be wiser too
But if love makes us crazy, I can say “Guilty”
When we can’t keep our tongue under control
It is time to back away, nothing left here to see.

Over the years, many times I have heard it said
That we carry our heart right there on our sleeve
Until finally we get hurt enough that it must end
So I tear off the sleeves, drop them and just leave.

  1. It is a tough time of year for emotions, that’s for sure. But also a tough time of year to tear off your sleeves, is it not?

Thank you for your words. Yes, it is a tough time of year, with losses in life remembered. But I think there comes a time when an old romantic has to accept that he wants too much and just lets go. If I’m going to feel numb, might as well know the reason.
