Through most of our lives we have been taught
The value of family and for this we have sought
It starts with parents, maybe siblings and such
And for most, its our own family we love so much.
Then we grow to adulthood and start to branch out
With this same family maybe we challenge and shout
It doesn’t mean we love them less than years before
Just our independence helping push us out the door.
So we meet someone and start to build our own legacy
We pass over faults that it’s easy for others to see
Maybe thinking we will change them, love after all
Yet in this day and age, many marriages seem to fall.
So this brings me to the question of what’s family
The lines are blurred, not always easy for us to see
As two families merge to become one, it takes work
And it isn’t a responsibility that either can shirk.
So many lives are involved in making this family a go
That it isn’t to be taken lightly, this we all know
Take the time to make sure not to make the mistake
And blessings and love, a new family you can make.
