Every Breath – a villanelle

Hadn’t tried one for a while, so maybe the mind will let it flow…

With each breath that we take
Life flows, memories are made
We realize our own mortality.

Maybe it is a thought that nags
A lingering scent from the past
With each breath that we take.

Remembering those now gone
How they were part of our life
We realize our own mortality.

Don’t forget those now here
The needs we have to share
With each breath that we take.

If we let distractions happen
So that we find ourself alone
We realize our own mortality.

Life is so full of challenges
It can overwhelm us so easily
With each breath that we take
We realize our own mortality.
