Give To Others

People seem to have lost sight
Of common courtesy and respect
Is it something they learn by life
Or is it due a parent’s neglect.

Do you stoop to their low level
Because they act with no regard
Or do you lead them by example
Show that being nice is not hard.

It can’t just be blamed on youth
Guilty also are those more mature
And they were raised with values
At least the majority, I’m sure.

To hold open a door seems small
To smile or greet simple kindness
So bring back the way we should act
We should help them expect no less.

You can thank Daily Prompt (they asked what bothers you in today’s culture). I like your version much better. Being a parent of four (plus two step-daughters) makes for a lot of manner reiterating. We both pray that it will stick with our kids.
    Wonderful Poem GP

Completely agree. People are rude, and it’s easy to follow suite… yet I always offer a smile or try. 🙂

I hate to agree with you, but I do. I still “Yes, ma’am and No, ma’am” to my mom! lol I’m always shocked how people talk to each other these days.
