Step Away

Some people give and give and give
To please those around them each day
The takers empty of their smile and joy
Until they have no reason left to stay.

With the weary sigh the giver stops
Not understanding why they are alone
When the takers look to others to love
The giver’s left without strength to groan.

I’ve seen it happen so many times in life
Usually the sweetest are taken the worst
No selfish thought, they give of them self
Not seeing how they have become cursed

I accept that many can’t see it happening
They leave me with nothing more to say
All I can hope is they find their own peace
And hear me when I plead, “Just step away”.

Good to see your creativity continues. Your poem is a sad observation of our nature. To be able to give of yourself yet retain a protective guard is a well learnt lesson on life’s journey.

And this was a great message you send and beautifully written I might add.

Well said! And unfortunately, oh so true.
