Built from whatever was needed
For a purpose reason might demand
They protect, direct, surround or hide
Not always do we know why they stand.
There might be a wall to hold special names
A remembrance of those no longer among us
A moment of silence and a time to reflect
Memories and places for others to discuss.
There are those walls that direct us around
Keeping a secret from one with a prying eye
Maybe a secret or a place that is dangerous
Those walls protect so we don’t ask why.
There are some walls that we can’t always see
Those built one brick at a time with no door
Built to protect what we have left of our heart
Not brick and mortar, but solid, we can be sure.
Like a wall that stands for an indefinite time
Some might walk around and seek what’s within
But only that heart that is healing until strong
Can break down that wall and try to live once again.
