What Is In A Sign

download

Sign – any object, action, event, pattern, etc., that conveys a meaning.

We are surrounded by so many signs
Yet we don’t always know where to turn
We use all the senses we’ve been given
And still for direction at times we yearn.

Signs on the street, in windows they show
Often we go by rote paying no heed at all
Too often we proceed without any thought
Something changes bringing about our downfall.

Then there are the less obvious signs we face
Those less obvious, they are only cerebral at best
Telltale changes in the emotions that we feel
They may leave us facing another kind of test.

Signs all around us that we don’t want to see
Causing us to try to shield and protect our heart
Not always knowing the reason for a change
But realizing it’s not the same as at the start.

How to we miss the signs that other have seen
The ones that maybe we’re blinded by our desire
Looking back there may be signs we have missed
And now our life course adjustments may require.

Whether subtle signs because of changes in life
Or warning signs because of heartfelt danger ahead
These signs are not always written to be easily seen
But all life’s signs we face, paying attention is required.

Abba: “I see the sign…” It just popped into my head.

The most frustrating sign is the one we don’t see or understand until it is too late.
