Free Write Friday – The Old Bridge

To follow my Friday prompt, check it out at: http://kellieelmore.com/2012/12/07/fwf-free-write-friday-inspired-by-waiting-bridges/

The Old Bridge

It had been far too long
Since I followed that trail
Out past granddad’s barn
Leading off into the field.

We had worn that path over time
That troop of children on the hunt
Always an adventure to be found
Imaginations merged in our world.

Granddad allowed us to cross the wheat
We’d get soaked at the little stream
Imagine our surprise to see the bridge
He put it up while we were at school.

Off to the woods for countless hours
So many memories stored to share
That old bridge stands to this day
I wish all those crossing remained.

I remember an old wooden pedestrian bridge across a high but narrow railway cutting between two fields of sunflowers, it seemed out of place, but probably had some stories of fun and laughter. The worlds we grow up in.. Good poem.

  2. Oh I am a sucker for this kind of poetry right here! Sweet, nostalgic and melodic! I adore your storytelling and the fact that you can do it in rhyme so appeals to my heart. I love it, Gray! Thank you so very much for your continued support of FWF. happy to have you with us, as always!
