We all have feelings of compassion at times
Sensing the struggling of someone we know
Knowing the pain and stress they are under
Yet not always knowing how to let it show.

We can have sympathy for the conditions they face
Out of respect or maybe having been there too
Wondering how to best show that we can care
Yet often we just let them carry through.

It might even be that we feel some pity
Knowing that they don’t deserve this pain
But that is not what they want to have felt
Rather help to get back on their feet again.

To show empathy is truly a humbling act
To be able to put our self in their place
To emotionally connect with their plight
Almost almost as if wearing their face.

Don’t just give them pity or words
To be empathetic is an act of love
Putting and feeling oneself in their place
Let’s us feel their emotions like a glove.

Charles, the most beautiful people I have known are those who have known defeat, known struggle, felt loss, and endured suffering. And yet, they have found their way back. They have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen. The only way to truly help another is to show them that you (truly) know what they’re going through, and then prove to them that you’re still alive! ~ Love, Bobbie
