Innocent

Look at the face of a child in wonder
How they accept almost everything heard
They don’t have to analyze everything
They take what you say as our word.

Oh to have the innocence of youth
To take everything we see at face value
How much would that lessen the stresses
And bring back memories for me and you.

Where is that point that we start to doubt
When life tells us that not all is fair
That each word isn’t always as we hear
That there are people who just can’t care.

Maybe we grow up too early these days
I remember a time that was not as this
I’d love to have back the innocence of youth
When we felt that each deserved a hug and a kiss.
