The Heart

When you think of things that matter
What should you think of at first
Do you think of family and friends
Or maybe your own hunger or thirst.

Most of those that think of others
Give little thought to themself
Preferring to do for others all they can
Yet leaving their heart on a shelf.

There comes a time in the life of each
When giving can empty our own soul
If you don’t let someone else give back
All that giving will take its toll.

So safeguard the feelings of your heart
Others can help replenish our zeal
Spend the time with those thar really care
Fill your heart from those that are real.
