Long Nights

The shadows play tricks on my mind
As I sit and stare off into space
So many thoughts to run through my head
Trying to put everything in its place.

With all the joys we are given to share
Why is this life cut short so much of the time
How do we make sense of these things
When some we lose while still in their prime.

As we go through life and try to do it right
Why do we struggle to hang on to love
Is it just the pressures of the days that we face
Or maybe some baggage we need to get rid of.

So many thoughts that ricochet through my night
At times a restful sleep would be such a welcome thing
But for now I concentrate on others to keep me going
Some day I’ll worry again what my life might bring.

One Response to Long Nights

  1. Phyllis Sears says:

You are not alone with these worries; we all do care and are with you in spirit and heart. It’s just easier sometimes to say nothing and bottle up our feelings than to let them out. At least you can write beautiful heartfelt poetry that gives us all an outlet. Hugs
