Personal Phoenix

From out of the ashes rose the figure of a man
Nothing special to look at but with renewed zeal
Time to shake off that burning of the past
Tend to the bruises and try once again to feel.

Nothing to be gained by over thinking what happened
Push the past into the past and move ahead with hope
There are paths to follow and new memories to make
Each day gives us enough challenges with which to cope.

So as has caused more joy than pain in the past
The heart will heal and be offered for another to hold
No one knows which soul that crosses our path
Might be the one to warm and bring us back from the cold.

To those that know me you know of my thoughts
That I feel too easily and maybe trust even more
I wait for the hand that wants to share, maybe memories to make
The lock is open, I’ll watch with hope for a knock on the door.
