Flying

If I could spread my wings
Where would I take to flight
To enjoy the glitter of the stars
Gliding in the dark of night.

To float with the clouds
Sharing thermals rising
The birds and I mingle
No thought to falling.

From the lights of the city
We turn our backs and fly
To the solitude we escape
No reason to ask why.

To escape the bonds of earth
If only for the brief moment
To think, to dream, to forget
Leave the day that is spent.
