Such a small word it might appear to be
Yet with the power to evoke such thought
Leaving us to ponder our course in life
Whether we ought to or should we not.
If only I had taken a different path
Might I have saved another some pain
Maybe a different choice for a career
A shirt washed sooner, removing a stain.
Oh if only we knew all the best paths
Would our life be better or worse today
Always so easy to look back and believe
If only a different way to act or to say.
If you had the chance to go back and amend
Any or all of the mistakes you have done
I’m not sure how I’d change things past
For I might not be the same person, this one.
